Our Projects
We are currently working to mobilize resources to carry out high-priority projects and improve our existing initiatives. We feel these efforts will have a drastic impact on the orthopedic capabilities of the state hospital system in Haiti.
C ARM X-RAY PROJECT
One of our top priorities at this time is the purchase and delivery of c-arm x-ray machines for the HUEH and La Paix state hospitals. These machines are considered an essential tool for any modern orthopedic program and will have profound impact on capacity and clinical outcomes. By increasing surgical visibility c-arms impart a host of benefits including decreased incision size, reduced bleeding, shorter OR time, shortened recovery times, fewer instances of mal-placed hardware, lower risk of infection, and fewer follow-up trips to the OR. By providing our partners access to these machines we will undoubtedly save countless lives and limbs.
SUSTAINABLE PLATES AND SCREWS FOR HAITI
This locally-led initiative is critical to the continuity and affordability of orthopedic services in Haiti. By securing donations and medical manufacturing partnerships we can support the state hospitals and facilitate access to consistent and affordable sourcing of orthopedic plates and screw sets. This provision is critical to modern orthopedic advancement on both a clinical and educational level. Once in place, this program will be self-sustained by our local partners through funding generated by a sliding-scale payment model.
CONTINUING EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT IN HAITI
The deployment of clinical teams has long been a central focus of our clinical and educational support efforts. Unfortunately, the recent US State Department travel ban on Haiti has greatly impacted our ability to put clinical teams on the ground. In light of this, we are temporarily re-directing our resources toward fortifying and expanding our remote learning footprint. By early next year, we hope to equip two additional state hospital sites with the technology needed to receive our weekly Grand Rounds lecture series.
GRAND ROUNDS SERIES
To ensure our educational components are consistent with the needs of our beneficiaries, we have developed a comprehensive orthopedic surgical curriculum reflecting the caseload specific to Haiti. In our weekly Grand Rounds series we record lectures given by world-class experts in various areas of orthopedics. These lectures are then translated to French, archived, and transmitted to multiple State Hospitals in Haiti. This cohesive curriculum helps to unify the orthopedic community and break down silos of individual state hospital training programs. We have further aided the accessibility of this material by setting up supportive infrastructure including monitors and Wi-Fi capability
We have also taken great efforts to maximize our impact by working collaboratively on multiple levels. We have partnered with the Federation of Trauma on our remote learning implementation while cultivating reciprocal partnerships with local educators and providers improving the depth of our impact on a local level.
Support Our Projects
We are actively seeking donations, sponsorships, collaborators, volunteers, partners, and advisors.
